MPG operates an Innovation Centre at our St Albans base, which is a facility where we test products and build mock-ups of systems so that we can identify buildability and interface issues before going to site. This proved to be invaluable for our installation of washrooms in a Stock Exchange fit-out project at Threadneedle Street for Bovis Lendlease. We were able to learn about the interface management issues that would be important when working alongside other trades in a congested site, as well as the quality management issues.
The project team visited our facility to see for themselves the practical factors that we identified as being the most important. Another project that was aided by our pre-trials was our tender for ceiling installation services for Tubelines at Cannon Street. The physical constraints regarding the working environment led several parties to conclude that the particular ceiling arrangement in question could not be installed at the site, but we were able to demonstrate that it would, in fact, be possible.
The ability to test out approaches to building situations is invaluable to MPG and our customers. It also enables us to keep our product suppliers at the forefront of developments in their systems by challenging them to show us how their products provide an innovative edge in projects. The Innovation Centre is also used for continuing professional development (CPD) seminars and training events.
We are very proud of our Innovation Centre and we welcome visits to explain more about what we do.
